Gavin Hellyer If I've ever heard a perfect drum and bass freak fest, then this is it. And that's before you even consider the maniacal vocals. Truly superb. Favorite track: Abortion.

Gwynplaine de Pétroleuse With their third full length release Deli Girls yet again drop a megaton bomb of erratic and pissed off as all fuck aggressive hard drum and bass-y electronic hellfire. I Don't Know How to Be Happy shows a deeper dive into Deli Girl's one-of-a-kind styles and immaculate execution of their craft. It just left me begging for more, absolutely incredible. Favorite track: Shut Up.

igobywoody the cover art's re-engineered exit sign is exactly what I said mid-way through the money/abortion/peg gauntlet in my car tonight...as in "fuuuuck, this kills it." The drums, the bass, the voice, raw, evocative, nuts... Please let me buy this on vinyl someday. Especially loved money, abortion, peg and it must be so nice. Favorite track: Abortion.

about

Sweat Equity is thrilled to announce our second record with New York's own Deli Girls, the duo of Danny Orlowski and Tommi Kelly, set for release this February. Mixing together elements of No Wave, Club music, Punk and Noise, the Delis have become one of New York's most treasured hometown heroes, and one of the best live acts in the city. Coming off their 2017 release 'Evidence, 'I Don't Know How to Be Happy' pushes the band's style and delivery to a new level.

Marking an expansion of their sound explored on their first record for Sweat Equity, the DG's bring a tightened sense of dynamics and an expanded sonic palette to the record. Honed over the course of the last year and through tours of the East Coast and Europe, 'I Don't Know How to Be Happy' sees the duo experimenting with overdubs and studio processing, creating dense arrangements that translate the ferocity of the band's legendary live acts.

Granted, the blueprint remains the same: blasting arrangements on drum machine and searing synthesizer elements complemented by Orlowski's cathartic fronting, the band's raw energy and powerful lyrical content remains at the core of these tracks, dealing with police surveillance, oppressive power dynamics and social hypocrisy. Few records feel as urgent and engaged with the world of 2019 as this one, and we couldn't be happier to bring it to you, live and direct.

'I Don't Know How to Be Happy' is out February 22nd.
